Challenge
The C8 Z06's flat-plane-crank LT6 engine required a uniquely shaped oil tank to fit within the mid-engine layout. Injection-moulded tooling would cost >$100k and take months.
Solution
GM produced the dry-sump oil tank via SLS — making it the first production SLS structural powertrain component on a GM production vehicle. Validated to OEM durability standards.
